Peacock Lament (විහඟ ප්රේමය) (Vihanga Premaya) follows Amila, a 19-year-old orphan from Eastern Sri Lanka who moves to Colombo and struggles to support his four younger siblings. When his sister is diagnosed with a serious heart condition requiring urgent and expensive surgery in India, Amila becomes desperate to find the money needed to save her life.
His desperation leads him to Malini, a woman operating an illegal baby-trafficking network. Although the work offers the financial hope he desperately needs, Amila soon finds himself trapped between his responsibility to his family and the devastating human cost of his choices. His growing connection with Nadee, one of the vulnerable women caught in the operation, forces him to confront his conscience.
Written and directed by Sanjeewa Pushpakumara, Peacock Lament is a powerful social drama exploring poverty, exploitation, sacrifice, family responsibility and the difficult moral choices people make in their struggle to survive.
